(Drosera)

It is not possible that such substances as milk, &c & especially urine sh or C. of ammonia shd enter int composition of plant, therefore there must be chemical change produced in these substances by which the plant detects the nitrogen —(for there is no mechanical difference, & not specific grains ie not exosmose or endosmose); but this chemical power exerted by plant does not suffice to detect or decompose the salts of ammonia, in which the stronger acids form a part or — or (any??) except the Carbonate.

Plants have only 2 to 3 roots 1/2 the inch long — single undivided clothe with absorbent hairs.— or only slightly divided

Which barely consist of only 2 or 3 rough single as [illeg] or slightly divide & [comprise] of only 2 or 3 hair, fr 1/2 to 1 inch in length, & is clothe all [2 words illeg]
