continually contracted used lowered & contracted to serve as a shade against the too strong a light; & this [illeg] movement would have been more especially come into use serviceable, as soon as the early progenitors of man became erect held their heads erect. Lastly Prof. Donders believes (Archives of Medicine Edi Edn. by L. Beale Vol. V. 1870. p. 34) that the corrugator is brought into  action in causing the whole eye-ball to advance, in accommodation for near proximity in vision.
