July 3d 9° flowing matter just perceptible greenish matter & tinge of purple chiefly greenish [sketch] (9th. 3° C of Am added 1 gr to 1 oz) (Almost white leaf) (Used)

9° 13 greenish atoms formed currents increased

9 14' clear aggregating [sketch] — I think near surface

9° 16' grp at (1) 9 17 grp (1) now 1/2 way down cell

In some other cells such groups much increased in size — all greenish

9° 20' (2) almost filled up with aggregating green matter Current not more plain or quick

9° 27 perfect sphere in some of cells but not in mine —(aggregation of sphere, green)

10° 30' some tendency to all gr matter collecting at lower end of (a). not in (b) some beautiful greenish spheres in some other cells

10 40' same state

11° 45' The green matter near gland never formed spheres; but lower down fresh spheres & in glands Ø

[93v]

Circulation in lower cell— when 1 or 2 dark purple spheres formed— the whole content of cell have formed only 1 or 2 balls—

Accordng to tint of purple — so more or less aggregated matter —

There are no other spheres coloured or colourless (Used)

5° green matter in same state & all spheres now similarly broken up

(2

10°. 10' 1 gr to 1 oz

[sketch] gland

10° 23' now bit of purple matter circulating, apparntly derived from end of (a) — I do not think content of cell fluid, but pulpy

10° 25— whole cell now full of purple matter no space at end of (a) — whole purple mass is flowing

The separate spheres now much quicker

12° now quite full of dark purple matter flowing protoplasm thinner— spheres forming in several cells

12° 15 5 — 7 small spheres — some travelling rapidly — cell still full of dingy purple matter spheres at different levels travel along walls

12° 30' — 1 good-sized sphere & 3 smaller one — The spheres evidently become very dark as whole cell now becoming paler; especially a cell near gland 12° 35' smaller cells spheres still circulating

12 45' good large sphere with 1 or 2 smaller, cell paler sphere 2/3 diameter of cell small spheres circulating 1° the big sphere has travelled up to near upper end of cell —

1° 15' larger sphere has now travelled to lower end of cell 3/4 of diameter — 2 other growing spheres — Spheres have appeared in adjoining cells the large sphere travel far slower than small one — The biggest one stationary, all diameter of cell Ø

[94v]

1° 45 the 2d sphere has now grow bet 1/3 & 1/4 of diameter of cell — there are 2 other minute spheres — cell considerably paler, of the 2 little spheres one red, one colourless— I see even bigger spheres do change slightly their places

(2° 35' large spheres = diameter of cell — 2d alm 1/7 of size both very dark red & 2 small ones — cell very pale, content seem to come close up to wall — invaded by pale purple)

3° This in appearance as if the pale purple was breaking up

3° 35 I certainly think pale purple is braking up.

4° 20' cell almost colouless pale purple colour within a little separated from wall — no trace trace of any current

5° same state — one of smaller spheres is travelling — & I can see slow & slight travelling of pale purple diffused matter.

6° 45 the cells almost without a trace of purple, but at upper end a cloud & here 4 minute new spheres are forming & at lower end there is also a perfect cloud; but as yet no sphere— (Since midday C. of Am 3 gr to 1 oz has been added

July 3d 8° A.m — 6 small spheres at upper end— the 2 old large ones & one small one at lower end — Every trace of purple gone — some greenish matter only partly aggregated — Sphere solid by pressure crushed — Still oscillating movement
