Preface M.S
(With respect to the latter chemical reagents various instances will hereafter be given; & I may here mention, that cutting off the glands with a sharp pair of scissors the glands closely off of the tentacles, caused the pedicels to become incurved. This succeeded in a large number of cases, but failed in some. I occasionally crushed a few glands with a fine pair of forceps, but this did not induce movement; nor did atoms of meat when placed in the crushed glands.
Nor did drops of Sol. of C. of ammonia, which is a most potent agent which wh placed on this cut off ends of pedicels of Tentacles when placed on the cut-off ends of the pedicels
(Nor did raw meat?)
