(I immersed a pi piece of a flower-peduncle in some a solution of C. of ammonia (4 grain to the ounce) for 1° & found the contents of most of the enlarged globular heads of most of the hairs segregated.

I then immersed another piece in pure water for 2° 30', but no effect was produced.
