Bot. Gazette vol I. p 328 Mr J. Woods on Atriplex

"several of the species, or at least several forms have 2 sorts of seeds. Those of the smaller calyces are slightly depressed, smooth black & shining; while those found in the larger calyces are much larger, so much so as to have occasionally 3 times the diameter of the upper seeds, they are considerably more of a dark chesnut colour, & wrinkled or shagreened.

In Aspects of Nature by Humboldt, tranlated by Mrs. Sabine, there is a good deal about proportions of Plants,— especially on the Steppes of Asia compared to Germany.

Bot. Gazette. Vol. 2. p. 92. case from Fries of seeds of Hieracium humile germinating from Burser's herbarium in 1610

1849 [-] 1610 [=] 239 years.

Bot. Gazette vol 2. p. 114. Review of Dr Bell Salter Descriptive Table of British Brambles

"Variations of 2 or 3 other kinds also, to a limited degree, appear to follow general Rules. Nearly allied species are apt to sport in parallel varieties. This may be observed in several of the groups, if not in all of them, so that the species being ascertained, the same designation & very nearly the same description will characterize the variety in each case."

(Now whether there be then true species or not this is important: shows variation dependent on laws; — can parallel series have any light thus thrown on them. —
