On the mountains N. of Madrid few truly alpine plants, though there are great masses of snow, but there are many annual plants of the sandy plains of Madrid.
p. 236. — few plants common to the Guadarannia N. of madrid & the Alps, enumerates 15 (where names sound very alpine). — All these are also found in Pyrenees — much less analogy with the S. Nevada of S. of Spain, & all the species common to the Nevada, are also found in the Asturias & Pyrenees.

| Andalusia | Balearic Islds | |
| The Scrophularees | 1/27 | 1/43 |
| Labiata | 1/20 | 1/21 |
other facts showing that proportion does not hold the same in the Balearic island & in S. Spain (versus Hooker)
p. 239. — It is very curious that in Plateau of Castille, there are 11 plants, found in the Taurus & in countries N. & S. of Castille, but not found in any intermediate part of Europe.
