Tom 2. Part 2. Rapport sur les Plantes Rares &c par Decandolle p. 127 . Papaver bracteatum & orientale offer indifferently 2 sepals & 4 petals, (which is most common with the Poppies ), or 3 sepals & 6 petals , which is sufficiently rare with the other species. —

analogus variability in 2 allied species.

p.145. Hist. du Trachusa aurulenta par Pierre Huber, — a bee which lays eggs in snail-shells, & builds a vegetable partition & then builds wall of dry stones within & afterwards hides the shell under bits of straw.

p. 158 — in one case, mouth of shell being upwards, he so covered it with its mastic or chewed leaves, that the shell was so hidden, that it did not cover it with straw "Ces traits viennent donc en confirmation de ce que j'ai si souvent observe chez insectes; de cette faculté qu' ils ont de varier leur procédés selon les circonstances". This is important (considering the authority) as it shows insects have more sense than one wd. think, & allows probably of more rapid changes of instinct. —
