p. 189 Arctic forms (not species) appear in the southern parts of N. Zealand, Auckland Islands &c as they do on shores of Japan & N. China

p. 191. thus in S. seas [remain] a cod like that of the north, & species of Greenland genera

p. 190 many fish common from W. coast of Africa to East Polynesia - only few same species are found on both sides of central Atlantic

p. 191. North of 44° Lat, number of species common to Europe & N. America increases.

p. 191. Mr Gray observes that Reptiles of Australia have an old-world character

p. 192. The fresh-water fish of C. of Good Hope & those of S. America are different from those of India & China

1845 Transactions p. 58 Mr Strickland "on th recent Researches into fossil insects"

The affinity of insects, as old even as the Lias, to present forms very remarkable for in this formation, all are [illeg] to families, & frequently to genera of existing families - in only one instance has Mr. Westwood proposed a new generic name.

(6) Therefore, Mr Strickland remarks, "perhaps there is no other instance of so remarkable a persistency of character in a whole class of animals, as that presented by the insects of Lias & Wealden" compared with present. (How is it in amber?)
