vol. 5. p. 29 memorandum concerning a remarkable case of Vegetable Transformation by Prof. Lindley. Colletia spinosa (= C. Horrida from Chile, a seedling from raised at Bicton, instead of having its branches converted into slender, tapering very sharp-pointed spines, are changed "into nearly equilateral triangles, with an indistinct rib along the middle, & the base parallel with the branch, on which they are seated." They are formed "by true expansions of the wood" - Believes case without a parallel "It must, however teach us to distrust mere peculiarities of external form, unattended by corresponding differences in fructification. - Thinks that the knobs of Khol-Khol [Knol-Kohl] & the turnip of Celeriac & the heads of cauliflower may have originated thus.

vol 5. p. 135 Mr Beaton on Amaryllids. 4 flowers of A Cyrtanthus dusted by Vallota & 4 by their own pollen, the latter slackened their growth & perished, the others yielded seeds which have sprouted. I have this Paper - This is nearly similar to case of Hippeastrum, a family next-door Cyrtanthus "in which Dean Herbert said he cd cause any Hippeastrum to cast its seed pods, by fertilising with pollen of another species the other flowers of the umbel.
