Bull. Soc. Bot 1855 vol. 2

p. 327 M. Clotzsch [Klotzsch] says in German work that no crossed Pinus silvestris [sylvestris] & Nigricans, Quercus robur & pedunculata, alnus glutinosa & incana, Ulmus campestris & effusa, seeds from these & from their true parents were sown at same time & place. Now after 8 years the hybrid trees are 1/3 larger than the others.

Bull. Soc. Bot 1855 vol. 2

p. 479 M. Belhomme says grains of misseltoe which have remained in the intestines of birds germinate 5 or 6 days before the others & are much more robust.

Bull. Soc. Bot. 1855 vol. 2

p. 482 M. Ch. Grenier gives note by M. Loret describing various natural crosses between Primula grandiflora & elatior & stations inhabited by them certainly seemed to be Hybrids

Bull Soc. Bot. 1855 vol. 2

p. 503. M. Fabre describes the two kind of flowers & pods of Vicia amphicarpa one subterranean & the other aerial, the former flowers seed perhaps rather most fertile. By uncovering & covering the branches can convert one form into the other, yet flowers differ much. Arachis hypogaea & trifolium subterraneum bury their flowers after fertilization, but he knows of no other case of flowers formed in the earth except the above Vicia.

M. Cosson cited case of Latherus amphicarpus

as having subterranean flowering branches; the seeds from both kinds of Lathyrus produced similar individuals. Has found subterranean flowers with Orobus saxatilis (Mem. Latherus nissodia & other cases of Dimorphis in Leguminosæ)
