Petunia

Plants of the same stock were intercrossed for 5 generations, but these were exceeded in fertility by self-fertilised plants of the 4th generation (& one wd have thought that s. f. for 4 gen wd have been very injurious) when once crossed by fresh stock in the ratio of 54 to 100 (N. B)
