[159]

I have insisted on case of Petunia & Iberis in which self-fert Plant exceeded greatly the crossed plants, but not so when growing very crowded & at p. 329, there is somewhat analogous case with Nicotiana, in which self were to cross, as 100 to 178 & flowered first, whereas in crowded pot the crossed rather exceeded the self — & this experiment was repeated, with nearly the same result

(p. 329)

Give when I discuss effect of severe amputation — showing some sort of advantage in crossed

[159v]

A nearly analogous case was case observed twice over with the Plants of 1' gen of Nicotiana
