In 1856 I had 4 onion growing close together & flowering together. I saved some seed from each, & now Sept, 16th 1857, I have compared Plants.
"Blood" least affected: 8 apparently nearly pure 1 in colour much affected 1 like pure silver-skin [total] 10 The Blood is a flat splendid red-coloured onion |
The only convex one "Globe" 1 like silver 2 red from blood but & flattened5 red from blood but convex [total] 8 "Globe" is a convex brownish onion |
6 flat 11 convex from Globe [total] 17 Silver a white depressed onion |
"Spanish" 1 apparently true 4 silver, but shape various so apparently cross from Globe 3 very like Globe 3 blood in colour but shape rather various as if from Globe [total] 11 Spanish depressed almost white a pale brown onion |
Total 10 [+] 8 [+] 17 [+] 11 [=] 46 of these were some way affected} 2 [+] 8 [+] 11 [+] 10 [=] 31 affected 31/46 crossed yet remember one corymbose flowers.
