"Nash, Wallis, 1837-1926. Lawyer, builder and writer. One of the founding fathers of Oregon State University. Married Louisa A'hmuty in 1871 as 2d wife. One of his five sons named L. Darwin Nash. See K.G.V. Smith & R.E. Dimick, Jrnl. for the Soc. of the Bibliography of Natural Hist., pp. 78-82, 1976. 1873-79 N took George Wood's house, The Rookery, at Down and became friendly with the Darwins. 1879 Emigrated to USA upon death of four of his children caused by scarlet fever. In 1873 Dec. 8, ED's diary "Went to Nashes". Had dinner at Down House 1874 Dec. 19. 1885 Board of Regents Oregon Agricultural College, forerunner of Oregon State University.
