1868. I observe in plainest way that seeds of Papaver vagum, & Delphinium consolida, Ononis minutissima & Flos adonis, but especially of two first, when placed on damp sand in tumbler, covered with glass, on my chimney piece in N.E dark room, & some way from window, very Rarely more than one or two seeds germinated; but when, after remaining on the sand, though left there for some week, then, put in Pot but when [illeg] the same seeds, place on the earth in pot & & covered with a thin layer of sand, they germin germinated quickly,  quickly, freely in very large numbers — It is clear that light very injurious to germination of these seeds.— Cause of error
