(With respect to the relative period of the germination of crossed & s-fert seeds, a record was kept in only in the 21 following cases; & the results are most perplexing.

X ― C ― (from parent-plants) The several crossed seed germinated before any the self-fertilise & those rather more heavier than the crossed in the ratio of 127 to 100 the lighter in the ratio of 100 to 127.

X Ipomœa purpurea. (2d generation) a large number of crossed & self-fertilise seed were allowed to germinate on damp sand, & after 8 days, 30 of the self-fertilise while only 10 of the crossed seeds had germinated S

Weight not known.

― ― (3d generation)— In this case it was ascertained that the crossed seed were in weight to heavier than the self-fertilised seeds in the ratio of 100 100 to 87; & with the compared 36 of the lighter self-fertile seed germinated [illeg] whilst only 13 of the heavier crossed seeds had germinated S

― ― (8th generation) The self-fertilise seeds were unusually small & light having been collected from unhealthy parents & they only many of them germinated before the crossed.— S

Mimulus luteus of the 1' gen cross to self-fert seed germinate simultaneously. =

(Fresh stock) S ― many self-fertilise seeds of the 9th Generation germinated before the seeds derived from crossing to parent-self-ferts plants with pollen from a fresh stock, & likewise before those derived from intercrossing 2 of the self-fertilise parent plants.— (6 cases)

Dianthus caryophyllus seed sown & the crossed seeds germinated above 24h before s-fertilise seeds. C

― ― Fresh stock many seeds from plants of the 3d s.f. generation crossed by a fresh stock germinated before the head seeds of the 4th self-generation & before seeds derived by crossing the s-fert pods of the 3d generation by with pollen from own intercrossed plant of the same stock & generation.—
