1865
Convolvulus major — seeds self-fert. under net & other seeds from a cross with other flower & I believe other plants sowed at same time, the self-fert. came up first! (Germination)
Stock seed (old) sent me by Major Trevor Clark, some with own pollen & some crossed by purple incana —the latter germinated about 24° first.—
Radish seed saved under net & some saved on same plants uncovered & no doubt visited by insects.— The latter set rose above ground about 24° earlier; or more especially far more germinated, so that rows the next day looked quite different. /over

Sept 19th 1865 Carnation seed crossed by pollen of distinct plant, germinated 24° before seed fertilised by pollen of own same flower.
After a few days their growth was equalised.— p But see Experiment Book p. 79—. for Spring of 1866. —
