hardly any of the cells were completely emptied, & some appeared I then added a minute drop of a solution of 4 grains of C. of ammonia (4 gr. to 1 oz) to the ounce of water & examined the specimens after one hour. Neither the exuded matter (which was now almost colourless) nor the remaining content of the great majority of cells showed a trace of aggregation.
