Pig family, & in [top of page excised] Tapir are conspi the young are conspicuously & conspicuously plainly striped striped by hair in a conspicuous manner, quite unlike any (still existing) adult members of the same groups. The young also of many most many kinds of Deer in all parts of the world are elegantly spotted with white, of which their parents exhibit not a trace.

A graduated series still exists can be shown to exist, from the beautiful Axis deer, in both sexes of which are beautifully spotted at all ages & during all seasons & in both sexes, although the male is rather more
