Limnanthes grandiflora— 1868.
12 fl. crossed yielded only 5 pods with 17 seed, ie average of 3.4. with max. of 5 & min. of I
18 fl. self-fert. & yielded 10 pods, but these contained only 25 seed, ie average of 2.5 with max. of 4. & min of I. — So do not set so freely when crossed, but yield more seed; not enough to judge by.
The set plentifully spontaneously under net.—
(May 16— 1869 young plants, 3 inches high to tips of leaves, the crossed look rather in advance.)
June 5. measured to tips of Leaves

Aug 2d /69/ There seem no clear difference in fertility between crossed & self side, all all plants well covered with pods.
(In Pot I, II, III & V the crossed plants flowered first; but in Pot IV self- flowered first.)
