In 1863 Verbascum Thapsi & Lychnitis were covered with nets & uncovered plants grew close by in K. Garden The covered plants produced an abundance of Capsules. 3 Capsules of covered V. thapsi produced to the eye as in perhaps rather less seeds than the uncovered. With V. lychnitis the seeds appeared very nearly the same in number. Seeing this & that the flowers present no particular adaptation & do not secrete nectar but are visited only by pollen-robbing bees, one might have thought that here was a plant that rarely or ever wd be crossed, yet no genus has presented so many natural hybrids. Here give my wonderful case of hybrids in Hybrid Portfolio between above 2 species.
