Huxley has given drawing in his Man's Place in Nature for which I described the idea & he directed me to these drawings. Häckel has given me striking drawings

As some of [illeg] may [illeg] have here seen a drawing of an embryo at an early stage of development; I here give one of man & one of dog, at nearly the same early stage of embryo carefully copied from the work of highest authorities ** By selecting the 2 embryos at somewhat different periods, (no doubt) In accordance  are seen more doubt have been [illeg] state more striking if to [illeg] in early [period]. The Human embryo so like in length - so drawing much magnified - Embryo of dog 25 days old - five times magnified.
