[147]

F. Muller says he has often been struck by a sort of musical contest between two or three males of a large Cicada, with a particularly loud voice. They commonly sit at a considerable distance from each other & sing alternately; as soon as the first has finished his song, the second immediately begins; & after he has concluded, the first begins again & so on.
