May 27/68/ Onitis furcifer no strid. on coxæ of hind legs of ♂ or ♀ or any part. The spurs on femur of ant. legs seem to act as guides or protection to tibia when drawn inwards - The two spikes on thorax, I can make out no use for.
Phanæus carnifex. no strid. in ♂ - thighs resplendent. on coxa of Post legs.
♀ Typhœus with just as good a strid. as male or better & stridulate by using hind legs}
Oryctes nasicornis ♂ no stri.} on coxa
Bubas bison do do
Geotrupes stercorarius both sexes have strid. all
Copris cantharis♂ 0 strid.
Bolbocerus farctus 0 Lethrus cephalotes 0
[26v]
Put * to Chiarig. The strid: [appal] is probably not sexual. At least Dr L (wissen) found it in both sexes of Ge. stercorarius (?)
It is also present in both sexes of G. & of Typhæus
There is no strid: apparatus on the coxa of the hind legs as the males of ..... Copris Phanæus.
Put in note to 2 means Geotrupes & Oryctes - in latter possibly sexual.
I might get from E. W. Janson of Zo Museum some other species of Geotrupes, both sexes & of Dynastidæ
