Semno-pithecus nemaeus or the Douc monkey. "The Face of an adult male in the Paris museum, is naked, orange-coloured & surrounded by long whiskers of glossy whiteness; the forehead is blackish, passing into delicate grizzled grey, which is the colour of the head, back, sides & abdomen; from the eyebrows to the ears extends a pencil of chestnut red; the throat is white; a gorget of chestnut red extends across the top of the chest, succeeded by a band of black, spreading over the top of each shoulder; the fore-arms, the tail, & a square sacral patch (ie on loins) are of a snowy white; the knees, legs & the tarsal

portion of the feet are of a rich chestnut; the fingers, toes & thighs are black; the groin & a space round the callosities are white; the callosities & the naked skin of the palms are yellow; the fur is full & very delicate."

p. 475. Semn. frontatus a large naked spot on forehead of a bluish white colour contrasting strongly with dull black face, surrounded by long black beard on both cheeks (p. 476). woodcut wh. reduced wd do, but beard on off side has failed.

483. Semn. cephalopterus (wd do for wood cut) has large pointed beard or rather whiskers of soft, long whitish hairs; skin of face black with tinge of purple palms & soles dull black.

Females smaller than males & smaller canines.

The fur of all old males Cynocephalic much darker than young males

In the Cynocephalic the naked skin of face is blue with white line – reddish flesh colour, & neck of various shades
