Gould (Penny Encylop Vol. 19 p. 287 & 290) divides Ramphastidæ into 2 groups — true Toucans with only 11 sp & Aracaris with 22 — ♂ larger than ♀ & says sexes alike in true Toucans, differently from Aracaris —& young very early take colour of adults.—

The motmot, (or genus Prionites), & Illiger, I suspect is quite a small group — nothing said about sexes or young [Gould 1841, p. 312]
Pitta seems only a genus - in one species described, sexes alike & young considerately different
Nothing about Barbets or Capitonidæ
Musophagæ (a fine group) nothing about sexes or young
[Darwin cited this in Descent 2: 177.]
