Wallace, Annals & Mag. of N. Hist. vol XX 1857 p. 412 says Birds of Paradise prefer certain lofty trees, which are known to the hunters, & there early in the morning from 10 to 20 full-plumaged birds assemble, on the notice express it, to play & dance

It is not stated that ♀s present, perhaps not noticed by native hunters.
