p. 208. Yarrell. (vol. 3 p. 259) has described seasonal changes in the male Pintail Ducks - males commence in July to resemble female - by August 4th hardly distinguishable from females - By 3d week in October the male has almost perfectly recovered masculine plumage.

p. 216 Wood-duck (Aix sponsa) male has long pendent tufts of beautiful feathers, which he can erect - in the female only a rudimentary crest. Male a beautiful bird.
