Livingstone expedition to the Zambesi 1865

P. 66 A Nightjar (Cometornis vexillarius) is only 10 inches long & in November the male has a couple of feathers 26 inches in length in each wing. These feathers greatly retard its flight for at other times it flies with greatest rapidity.

[Descent 2: 73, n64: "Livingstone, 'Expedition to the Zambesi,' 1865, p. 66."]

P. 425. The little black weaver congregates in a small party of 3 or 4 on bushes round a small plain, and sings & glides with quivering wings which make a rapid whirring sound like a child's rattle. One by one they thus perform for hours but only during the courting season.  Author (Jerdon about Bustards)
