That the blackness of Blackbird is for ornament we may feel sure from the contrast with bright yellow bill, so different from that of ♀. (does it grow yellower in Spring?) & the blackness of Black Cock - for contrast with crimson wattle or [illeg] does this brighten during Breeding season. see Macgillivray
