"Bartlett, Abraham Dee, 1812-97. 1859-97 Superintendent, Zoological Society's Gardens, Regent's Park, London. Renowned taxidermist. His shop was near the British Museum. In this capacity CD had contact with B. Among the animals B stuffed were the first gorilla ever shown in England (1858), and the famous elephant Jumbo owned by P.T. Barnum, of circus renown. Mar 11 /68/ Cheer Pheasant. P Wallichii sexes differ but little - dull-coloured not much more than C. auritum, & neither of these species display their plumage & the latter do not fight - hardly evidence enough on latter fact, as only one species observed –

The ♀ of very many pheasants certainly resemble each other very closely & even of such a species as the Lophophorus (Mr. Ferguson (?) in which ♂ so wonderfully different
