Osbert Salvin (1835-1898), F.R.S., Hon. Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, was a great authority on ornithology and entomology.

Zoolog. Soc. March 23rd 68/ Mr Osb. Salvin shewed me several Trogons; & many differed greatly in colour; in intenseness of orange on beak & tail.

Trogon caligatus & mexicanus, the back of male is fine glossy green, females dusky brown, yet these birds nest in holes. Very much opposed to Wallace.

Calurus resplendens ♀ has short tail De Saussure not very trust worthy.
