Brit. Mus. Polyplect & of Fowls & Pheasant

(1) Are F. of any species of Polyplectron quite destitute of ocelli? none in which male has ocelli.

Are the ocelli generally dim Yes in P. Hardwickii much dimmer, plainly present only in tail. Has the F. of P. napoleonis any ocelli? not known - ♀ is not known.

(2) Are barbs more compact where forming the ocelli than in other parts? No Are tail coverts broader towards extremity No (I see in one species they are elongated & parallel)

(3) In which species are the 2 ocelli not quite parallel? In P. chinquis

(4) In P. Hardwickii I think the 2 ocelli are not confluent in central true tail feathers they are not but the ocelli touch each other.

[67v]

In P. chinquis, the ocelli diverge thus; so in reversed manner to what occurs in Peacock. In another closely allied form or forms, which is figured the ocelli are elongated & parallel.

[sketch]

In P. enicospilum ocelli circular, tail like Pheasant [1st] 2 inches long. - Bears no affinity with Peacock

In P. Chalcurum ♂ & ♀ no true ocelli.

In P. Hardwickii good topknot somewhat like that of Java Peacock but barbs decomposed
