Sexual selection

Reference for *

Ch. I p. 33 my M.S. The fact shown by Eschricht the features of ♀ have moustache is strongest evidence that both sexes of monkeys originally like any monkey had moustache & beard & that it has been lost by ♀ through sexual selection. In greater bearing of same case, probably case of simple greater retention but may be due to reversion.

Eschricht, Daniel Frederik. 1837. See Darwin to H. M. Wallis 22 March 1881.
