Anthropolog Review no. 29 April 1870 p. 185. Mr Pritchard (*quoted by Dr B Davis) also resided many years in the Pacific isld says says the beard of the Fijian is "profuse & bushy & is his greatest pride" Whereas the Tongan & Samoan, inhabitant of not distant archipelago are "beardless & abhors a rough chin)

*This is also in same paper (p. 191) that on one isld also of the Ellice Group the "men are heavily bearded & not a little proud thereof".
