There is certainly with Fish, no evidence that the ♀ prefers or permits the attendance of one ♂ more than another - but the ♂ will not, as far as known, fertilise the ova, except in the presence of the ♀ & at the moment of deposition - It is evident there may be & there is known to be a contest between the♂s.
