Many monkeys have great power of moving skin of Head - the Black Macacus inornatus maurus has this power remarkably; but the Gorilla more concerns concerns us, & Huxley (p. 48 Mans place in nature) says "the animal has the power of moving the scalp freely forward & back, & when enraged is said to contract it strongly over the brow, thus bringing down the hairy ridge and pointing the hair forward, so as to present an indescribably ferocious aspect."

[17v]

I am sure that Savage (see Huxley) in describing Gorilla in fury. Talk of skin on scalp moving around. Where I describe Decandolle pitching book off, his own head put* about Gorilla - as Homo v. Darwin sneers at this.
