p. To call that instinct which leads an animal to help its fellows (so with man) [illeg] sounds singularly inappropriate, yet it has been developed for good of species

p. To argue that conscience must have had a special & divine origin from the force of repentance, - from such noble saying as "fiat justicia ruat cælum" can hardly be sound, as it might thus be argued the "law of honour" was special & divine.
