Etty says that I had better expand that under present state of knowledge we cannot say how maternal love arose - It appears or something which replaces as we see in the case with which spiders take care of their bag of eggs - & Earwigs attend carefully to their young - Even star-fishes (Frank) take care of young. This can hardly be affection.
