25,000 — of which 1000 are become more beautiful than the average during growth of these the 25,000 only 1/5 die survive. ie 5000 survive, & of these 5000, 1/25 are beautiful beyond the average, ie 200; so that we now have 4800 ugly & 200 beautiful surviving. These 5000 now again vary during maturity & 1/25 of them become beautiful ie 200, so that we shall have 400 beautiful.—
