CHRIST'S COLLEGE LODGE, CAMBRIDGE.

22 June 1909

My dear Mr Simpson,

I have read the Catalogue of the Darwin Exhibition on which you have bestowed so much labour; and I wish on my own account and also in the name of this College to return to you our must sincere thanks.

You told me the other day that you had learnt during your residence at Cambridge to appreciate the value of College associates.

Your own College has always been on very friendly terms with ours: thirty years ago Christs & Emmanuel all but succeeded in bringing about a complete union which a majority at each desized. But though the two Colleges are still separate, I hope that you will realise that our feelings toward you will be those which we entertain towards the best of our own past members, both because of your great

kindness on the present occasion, and for another reason which is present to us both.

Believe me to be always

sincerely yours

John Peile
