Jena 30. Juni 1909. Hochgeehrter Herr!

Hochachtungsvoll Ernst Haeckel

[English translation:

Dear Sir!

Thank you very much for the very welcome gift of the 2 "Essays" (1842 and 1844): "The foundations of the Origin of Species" of your highly revered father, my dear friend and unattainable role model! I have much regretted that persistent illness impeded my participation in the lovely "Darwin-Centenary-Celebration" in Cambridge. Respectfully Ernst Haeckel]
