Dear Mr Shipley

Yours of the 5th rec'd: I cannot recall any portrait of Darwin which I offered to lend.

The only portraits of him which I have are those which are reproduced in his works. Of course impressions of any or all of these are at your service if you will tell me which you require. I did offer to lend you my bound volume of Darwin's letters to my father, but I doubt if this is very suitable for Exhibition.

Yrs very truly

John Murray
